SolarPack Subteam Updates - Week of 2/23

Aero:


Updates:

  • Collab with structures on first ballast box panel

  • Floor test pieces with 2 & 3 layers of core materials came out good

  • Unlikely to support weight with current configuration based on our qualitative analysis

  • Still in the process of ordering carbon fiber from ACP… they are annoying

  • Need to order more breather material, release film, vacuum tape, and large plexiglass sheet for layup

Next Steps:

  • Paneling the aeroshell

  • Do more test pieces for the floor possibly using carbon fiber

  • Adjust the fastening method for the floor onto the chassis

  • Get amounts of each material to order

  • Work with structures this week to complete a large layup

  • Shoutout to Jai Saxena for finding a grant opportunity w/ the Society for Science and helping me write the application!

  • Doing our taxes with the gang this Thursday

  • Member spotlight on Cody Johnston going out this week

  • High Voltage blogpost also going out this week

  • Society for Science Grant hopefully will give some last minute cash before FSGP

Next Steps:

  • Finish Society for Science Grant before March 5

  • Help Aero try to get a discount from Fiberglast

  • Let the vlogging begin (engineers be prepared)

Updates:

  • J1772 female connector is missing. If anyone sees something like this in the shop please let me know

Next Steps:

  • Find connector

  • Finish BMS connectors

  • Connect input and output to ELCON

Low Voltage:


Updates:

  • Shoutout to Max Weiser for the work they Have been doing with sys arch and getting the car computer ready

Next Steps:

  • Solar cell encapsulation test mold

  • Testing lighting system

  • Testing new 12V battery

  • MPPT schematic and Re-design

Structures:


Updates:

  • First large-scale composite created (Ballast Box)! Thank you Aero!

  • Seat Belt mounting points drilled + hardware secured

  • Buck Converter & 12V Mounts fabricated

Next Steps:

  • Create first HUGE-scale composite for battery box side

  • Else, cutting and creating a ton of composites for Ballast, Firewall, Batteries, etc.

  • Once 12V comes in, thanks Connor Wayman, securing 12V & BUCK to mounts

  • Work with Aero/VD to ensure the floor is load-bearing.

Vehicle Dynamics:


Updates:

  • Brakes are powered and are awesome!

  • Lines are mounted!

  • Accelerator is mounted! (shout-out Nathan Hambleton!)

Next Steps:

  • New stronger steering column w/ steering wheel mount

  • RMS loop!

  • Drivetrain rebuild (shout-out to Jose and his motor mount)
